Find your success

“We want our students to be trained from the beginning on how to think about doing well and doing good at the same time. David Swensen used to say that this is a wonderful career where you can make a lot of money by doing the right thing.”

— Tobias Moskowitz

Our approach is rigorous and practical

In this quantitatively intense nine-month program, you’ll receive training in all aspects of asset management, including investment selection, asset allocation, portfolio management, and risk management.

The curriculum, developed by the late David Swensen, Yale’s former chief investments officer and the pioneer of the “Yale Model,” and Professor Tobias Moskowitz, a principal at AQR Capital Management, combines academic theory and practice to help students understand how best to allocate resources.

Meet your classmates

I’ve been fascinated by the investment management world since a summer internship in a long-only equities fund in Spain when I read When Genius Failed, a book about the rise and fall of Long-Term Capital Management. I was intrigued, started researching graduate programs in asset management, and found Yale SOM’s. I was immediately struck by the unique coursework, data applications, and quantitative rigor.

I believe in continuous learning, both professionally and personally. With the rapid pace of change in asset management, I was attracted to the asset management program because it offers structured exposure to cutting-edge approaches.

Michelle Shao ’23

The Asset Management program offered me an education with real-world applications in both quantitative and fundamental investing strategies. I’m passionate about markets and spend my spare time trying to understand the complex interrelationships between asset classes and current geopolitical news. This program is exactly what I was looking for.

Billy Taylor ’23

I worked in corporate derivatives at Morgan Stanley for three years and in investments at Rockefeller University for two years before coming to Yale SOM. The new Asset Management Program looked like a real opportunity to gain specialized knowledge, on top of a foundational economics degree.

Wesley Meyer ’22

I chose Yale SOM’s program because of David Swensen’s and Toby Moskowitz’s vision and their dedication to training future asset managers. This program is also unique in the way it puts a heavy emphasis on the fiduciary responsibilities of practitioners, which really appealed to me.
